Most Epic Game of Magic I have ever played.

Was playing the $1,000 Tourney at A-Kon Dallas for MTG.

It was a six rounds of Standard and if you made Top 8 it was Avacyn Restored Draft.

The Friday Night before I played at my local store, Gunslinger Games, for their once a month Super FNM (5 packs per entry into the the top 8) to test the deck I would play at the tourney.

6 Rounds later at FNM, I go X-2 with Angel Delver and felt very confident for A-Kon since the rounds I lost were in 3 and I literally needed to not get as flooded and drew almost anything to win.

So back to the 1k…

I hit the mirror for the first 4 rounds losing only to my brother (who I forced him to play the deck because IT IS THAT GOOD) in round four going 3-1. I then hit U/W Venser losing in 2 to go X-2. Feeling down because I wasn’t sure if X-2 was going to make. Standings after round 5 are going up and I’m in 10th or 11th with the best OMW % in the tournament at over 70%. So due to a number of people drawing early and who/faced who. If I won my last match I would top 8.

Round 6 Angel Delver V.S. Esper Control

During FNM he played Angel Delver, but switched for some reason to control. We talked about how there can only be one winner and what not. I played this matchup in my last round of FNM to potentially Top 8 so Friday really helped me focus on what to do for potential money.

Game I win in five minutes play Delver turn 1, flip it turn two, play Geist and just kept swinging. He had no Souls, but then Day of Judgments to stay at 3 life. He double curses with no creatures on board and I flashed Restoration Angel and swing casting Mutagenic Growth to win.

Game 3 was probably one of the best high level games I’ve ever played. He got two curses off (again, seriously, so much draw in that deck) after I got some swings with a 1/1 Geist and 2/3 Angel, I cast a Consecrated Sphinx. He played a Sphinx of his own, causing the gross Sphinx trigger apocalypse where I basically draw most of my deck. I kill his Sphinx by swinging with my own he blocks think his will live but I do the sick play of Mutagenic growth and snap it again to become a 6/8. He then casts Liliana and makes me sac a creature so I sac my angel. I play another sphnix and swing 2. The game goes to time so I only get 2 turns to win and he and I know that one of should win and not try to draw. He has 2 Timely Reinforcement tokens and 4 Lingering Soul tokens in play to my two 2/4 sphinxes. I know he has a terminus in hand, but he doesn’t use as it just causes a draw so he races by swinging with a couple of tokens and I take it going to 5. He’s at four with two tokens untapped so my only out was either the last vapor snag in my deck so I can also use the snap in my hand to win or the one ratchet bomb still in my deck. I top deck the snag to win on Turn 4 of turns.

EXTRA: Then A-Kon’s tournament structure ruined it by making the Top 8 an Avacyn Restored Draft. Played a bunch of this formats’ draft so I had confidence. Being in the seat I was in I was forced to playing RG Midrange and it was not good. The deck wanted to go to late game so I could Soulbond shenanigans and deal a ton of damage in one turn, but the deck was terrible against UW Mist Raven and RW aggro (which both were drafted in our table) I face another friend playing BG with Blood Artist and a ton of removal and lose because that deck just beats me. Get my $50 and my brother gets $200, but nonetheless, it was a great tournament and I love to play the mirror all day so at the next PTQ…
